Monuments
Castle of the Warmian Chapter
The oldest building in Olsztyn (the first mention in documents - 1353). It consists of three wings and a defensive wall closing the courtyard. In the years 1516 - 1521, Nicholas Copernicus lived in the castle, who was the administrator of landed estates and conducted astronomical observations. In the following years, the castle served various purposes, for some time it housed a prison there. From 1945, the Museum of Warmia and Mazury has its headquarters. Among many unique collections, there is an astronomical tablet made personally by Nicolaus Copernicus.
Upper Gate (from the 19th known as the High Gate)
A fragment of the surviving band of defensive walls. Built in the 14th century, it survived wars and fires. In 1858, she served as a prison (for the help of Polish insurgents, Wojciech Kętrzyński was held here).
St. Jacob (Gothic)
The construction began in the years 1370 -1380. In the winter of 1807, after the occupation of Olsztyn by the French, Russian prisoners who burned all the equipment were kept in the cathedral. To this day, among others, a baroque painting of Saint. Florian, candlesticks and chandeliers from 1598 and 1609, and a crucifix from 1680, sculpted by Izaak Rige. For a dozen or so years, organ and organ concerts performed by the best virtuosos have been held here in July and August.
Chapel of Jerusalem
Erected in the 16th century, it is a remnant of a leper's shelter. Rebuilt and retrofitted has become a place of prayer for pilgrims. Today in the altar there is a cross from 1510, and three paintings from the end of the 17th and 18th centuries on the walls.
